Zakat
Zakat means purity, growth, and blessings. In other words, it is giving a certain amount of one’s wealth, as specified by Allah, to those in need. This act is performed solely to seek the pleasure of Allah. Through Zakat, the needs of the poor and needy are fulfilled, and the giver’s wealth is purified, and blessings are bestowed upon it. As mentioned in the following verse of the Quran:
“Take from their wealth a charity to purify and cleanse them thereby.” [9:103]
